Welcome to the
Kitchenaid Mother’s Day Giveaway Event
Hosted by Budget Earth & A Spectacled Owl

If there is one thing all of us know, moms are pretty busy people! Those of us who are moms know that it’s a big job that has horrible pay, but some of the best rewards in the world. While we may not want to admit it, a little part of us looks forward to mother’s day since we know we get some nice heartwarming gifts from those who are most special to us – our families. Sometimes though, we can’t help but feel a little pang of guilt that we couldn’t afford that new gadget that we have been dreaming of for months, knowing that it really isn’t part of our budget – especially that brand new Kitchenaid Mixer that we know would look lovely in our kitchen!
Well, we are happy to announce that we are working with some of our favorite bloggers to bring you a giveaway directed at special moms like us – this Kitchenaid Mixer Giveaway Event! While many of our giveaways are sponsored by a company, this giveaway was actually paid by 28 of us bloggers. We wanted to make Mother’s Day extra special for our favorite Mom (or Mom in waiting) and know this will make one lucky Mommy light up on May 12th. Budget Earth will even be emailing the winner on Mother’s Day, so make sure to be watching your email!

Last May I finally made a commitment to myself to exercise daily. Of course I wanted to lose weight and get fit but more importantly I was thinking of my future health. Now that I’m in my forties, I realized that my body wasn’t the same any longer. I have a family history of osteoporosis among other obesity-related illnesses. I wanted to hold those at bay for as long as I could. What I didn’t realize was that committing myself daily would help enormously with my emotional life.
First of all I found out that daily exercise greatly reduced my stress levels. I am absolutely a type-A personality. I am the classic overachiever. If there isn’t something to be stressed about, I’ll find something to stress about. When I first began exercising I thought that it was going to be just one more stress to add to my life. I’m not sure how it happened but after a few weeks I just felt more calm and joyful. I wasn’t so moody with my kids. All the things that were bothering me, somehow I was able to push to the side for a bit. The best thing of all, I began to live in the “here and now” instead of thinking of the long laundry list of things I have to get done. They are still there waiting for me, but I’m not obsessing about them any longer!
Secondly, I would venture to say that exercise helps lift depression. Now I have never been diagnosed as depressed but there are times when life was just getting me down. Honestly, before I started taking better care of myself, I’m pretty sure I was going to have to go see a therapist. Just a few months before I started exercising, I had been to see the doctor for heart palpitations. She mentioned that it was most likely anxiety-related and I could take an anti-depressant if I wanted to. I was pretty upset with the whole idea. Once I started exercising I found those feelings of anxiety and possibly depression were eased and my moods were lifted.
Finally, I have found that exercise has built my self-esteem and body image. Now I still have a ways to go when it comes to being fit. However, even just the smallest improvements have made me feel better. I’m pretty excited about the small bicep I have developed and the shape of my shoulders becoming more defined. I’m thrilled to be able to do burpees and push-ups now. When I started I couldn’t even do one push-up; now I’m able to do twelve! I’m not so worried about whether I look as good as the other women in the TV commercials, I’m starting to feel pretty content in my own skin. Most of all I just feel healthy and full of energy. Who could ask for anything more?
